Studio Portrait Photography in Paris: The Elegance of Black and White
A successful portrait reveals a presence. In the quiet of the studio, light, gaze and attitude become a language. My work creates the conditions for you to feel fully yourself in front of the camera.
I create studio portraits in Paris for private clients, models, actors, artists, entrepreneurs and professionals. Every session is tailored, in black and white or colour, with precise direction and particular attention to expression.
Studio portraiture: revealing a personality
The studio allows us to focus on the essential. Face, silhouette, hands and gaze occupy the space without an imposed setting or distractions. This apparent simplicity requires precision and offers rare freedom.
Before photographing, we discuss the image you want to convey. A portrait can be intimate, elegant, assertive, natural, cinematic or more editorial. I then build the lighting and photographic direction around that intention, adapting the approach to each person.
I look for the moment when the gaze feels right, the attitude relaxes and the portrait begins to resemble you.
The strength of a black and white portrait
Black and white has a distinctive presence. Removing colour highlights light, volume, skin texture and the intensity of an expression. It concentrates the portrait.
Depending on the face and intended atmosphere, I may use soft, enveloping light or stronger graphic shadows. The choice serves the photographed person’s character and the emotion we want to evoke.
The session presented here was with Fatou. Her gaze, calm and presence naturally guided the series towards a timeless, restrained and expressive black and white treatment.
A guided session, even if you have never posed
You do not need posing experience for a beautiful portrait. Most people I photograph are not professional models. I guide you throughout the session: body position, face angle, hand placement, breathing and gaze.
Direction is gradual and natural, helping find attitudes that suit you. The session’s pace builds confidence, allows you to gradually forget the camera and makes room for more personal expressions.
More than twenty years as a professional photographer in Paris have taught me that listening builds a portrait as much as light does. Explore selected work in my portrait and fashion photography portfolio.
Studio portraits with Fatou
This series shows three variations on one presence. Framing, light and expressions evolve while retaining a coherent visual identity.
